New Gmail it's coming whether you like it or not

While the company made no mention of a schedule for "regular" Gmail users, its likely both demographics will follow a similar timeline. In September, they'll lose that option and be forced to use the new design whether they like it or not.

Google has announced that the redesigned version of Gmail will be available to everyone in July as part of its general availability (GA) launch. Those users who have a paid account from their company and organization will soon be shifted over to the new Gmail design. Then they will have another four weeks to opt out, allowing for a total of 12 weeks to deal with the switch, according to a blog post published by Gmail on Monday.

As of now, the highly anticipated redesigned Gmail is an EAP, which means that the customers can choose to or opt out of participating at the levels of the domain and organizational unit. Google revealed that users will initially get the option to opt-in to the change or stick with the old (current) appearance.

Features of the new Gmail such as offline and confidential mode will be off by default when the new version reaches general availability in July. Users will have no choice but to use the new design starting in October. They can hold off for another four weeks, but after that, everyone will be able to opt in.

Google rolls out offline support in Gmail and its new Smart Compose feature that completes your sentences. About two months after July, all users who aren't on the new Gmail will be pushed across automatically, but they'll be able to opt out for the next four weeks.

Listen, that might sound a touch tyrannical, but new Gmail is pretty darn cool.

It has only been a few weeks since the new Gmail design was officially confirmed by Google. This will open the Google Admin console.
