Dem lawmakers seek criminal corruption probe of EPA's Pruitt
09 June 2018, 11:05 | Floyd Cook
Republicans block Democrats’ effort to help EPA investigate Pruitt’s ever-growing scandals
In a letter to FBI Director Chris Wray and Justice criminal division chief John Cronan, six Democratic lawmakers with oversight of Pruitt's agency allege he repeatedly violated federal anti-corruption laws by seeking to leverage his government position for personal gain.
Be it his dining tastes or business networking, the drumbeat of news about Pruitt suggests he's more interested in swimming laps in "the swamp" than draining it.
Democratic senators this week accused Pruitt of withholding records of the trip, where Pruitt also met with US and worldwide business leaders and former government officials. "Look, My wife is an entrepreneur herself, I love, she loves, we love Chick-fil-A as a franchise of faith and it's one of the best in the country and that's something we were very excited about and we need more of them in Tulsa and we need more of them across the country".
Pruitt also faced backlash after a letter to GOP Representative Trey Goudy of SC, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, showed the EPA administrator told an aide to buy an old mattress from Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C.
Pruitt, in appearances before congressional hearings this spring, has denied responsibility for any ethical lapses, saying subordinates made those decisions. "And you know, somebody has to say that about you a little bit", the President said of Pruitt. Another Oklahoma transplant who received a large raise, EPA scheduler Millan Hupp, is also leaving the agency.
EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt is mired in scandals.
"She has done outstanding work in all of her endeavors here and will be sorely missed", Pruitt said in a statement.
Greenwalt is due to appear this month before a panel of House Oversight committee staffers investigating a series of ethics allegations against Pruitt.
Pruitt spoke Wednesday to a correspondent for Nexstar Media Group.
Pruitt actually suggests it's only a story because he's making big changes and "with great change comes significant opposition".
