Three killed in Maryland shooting, suspect kills himself - police
Montgomery County police Monday evening said a standoff in a triple homicide had ended with the suicide of suspect Christopher Snyder, 41.
Authorities said Murphy, of South Dakota, was visiting the home and Shotwell, of Owings Mills, Maryland, was performing work on the home. Three other people who were at the house at the time, including Snyder's wife, were able to escape, according to WRC.
His wife claimed that she had run to the nearby house for refuge - but he followed her into the property killing three of the six people inside.
Snyder's wife allegedly told police the slaughter began after she ran out of her home after being held there over the weekend.
County police as well as agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are investing the deadly shooting. Tactical units and negotiators were also brought to the scene.
After failing to convince Snyder to come out of his house and surrender for seven hours, the police gave orders to breach the front door of his house at 11 p.m. EDT. The suspect was on the phone with negotiators. He asked the negotiator, 'Did they just break in to the front door?' and then hung up the phone.
Police say Snyder was holding her hostage over the weekend.
According to reports, Snyder had a history of run-ins with police, and his address is listed as gun dealer Black Widow Enterprises, LLC.
"We've had contact with this suspect in the past over a number of different issues", Manger said.
