Bodies of man and boy recovered from Offaly plane crash

BREAKING Serious injuries reported after plane crash in Offaly

The pilot, and a seven-year old boy were killed in the incident outside Clonbullogue yesterday afternoon.

Kasper was the son of a club member who was one of 16 parachutists that had jumped from the Cessna Caravan aircraft moments before it crashed at 3pm on Sunday.

Two people were still on board - the pilot and a seven-year-old boy.

The victims had been presumed dead after rescuers confirmed the bodies remained inside the plane until it was dislodged from the ground late on Sunday night.

According to Cllr Fitzpatrick, a Pilatus plane usually used by the parachute club had been sent overseas for an overhaul and the Cessna Caravan was being used in the meantime. He recalled seeing the tail move slightly when it was near the tree line before he heard "a thump" as it collided with the ground.

"I heard a bad roaring and it went straight down like a torpedo", Jimmy Slattery said.

It's understood the crash occurred between Daingean and Edenderry.

"That roar will live with me for a while", he added.

It crashed near the Irish Parachutists Club in County Offaly, Ireland.

He said the pilot had been hired by the Irish Parachute Club since their own plane was being serviced.

"People would be over there all the time, especially at weekends in the summer, a lot of people parachuting and a lot of fundraising jumpers", he said.

An air accident emergency investigation is underway to assist GardaĆ and Fire Service.

"These flights have been happening for the last 20 years and this is the first time I've heard of a plane going down; it is very worrying".
