Lightning come out swinging, knock out Bruins in first 3 minuntes

04 May 2018, 12:00 | Conrad Doyle

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman and Boston Bruins winger David Pastrnak

He scored a pair of goals in the first 3:41 to spark the Lightning victory that has given Tampa Bay back the home-ice advantage it lost.

The over has hit in three of Boston's last five games. Tomas Hertl added a second-period goal and Joe Pavelski capped the scoring midway through the third.

Tampa Bay came out of the gate ready to play and Boston looked to be on their heels.

Returning to the earlier seating breakdown, we definitely realize that this policy affects such a tiny percentage of those who want to take in a playoff game while not pledging allegiance to the Lightning, but it is interesting to ponder whether the measure makes for good business and if it somehow fails to "embrace the passion of invading fans", as Edwards asserted. Well, you've got to defend better, and that's where my issue lies.

The Bruins were left searching for the energy in the building that had dissipated since Rancourt ran off the ice.

The game did have one glimpse of hope for the Bruins after Patrice Bergeron scored on a power play.

"I feel good", Point said of his performance. He tipped in a Victor Hedman shot and scored his fourth goal of the playoffs and second of the series.

The Lightning again controlled the pace of play in the third period.

TURNING POINT: The first period was just horrendous for the Bruins. David Backes and Cedric Paquette dropped the gloves and fought. It didn't go as planned. I'm liking the Bruins at home.

The goals pumped life and confidence into the Lightning and certainly sucked the air out of Boston's sellout crowd.

The Bruins took consecutive penalties after falling behind 2-0, with Riley Nash going to the box for interference at 6:04, and Charlie McAvoy taking a roughing penalty about 2½ minutes after Nash left the box. Save for an empty net goal Wednesday, Lightning superstars Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov have been near-invisible, which should be a boon to to Bruce Cassidy's squad.

After a lethargic 4-1 loss in Game 3 against the Lightning, it's pretty clear that the Bruins need a bit of a shakeup in their offensively-challenged lineup.

The Tampa Bay Lightning may have started out their series against the Boston Bruins on the wrong foot, but they have definitely found a way to get back on the right track and start winning games.

"We didn't play great, especially early". In the final five minutes of the first period, San Jose blew that narrative out of the water as the Sharks went on to win 4-0. That's only six fewer than they gave surrendered in their worst previous playoff outing in a Game 1 win in Tampa.

Marcus Sorensen got it started with a dandy. Logan Couture won an offensive zone faceoff against Erik Haula, and Mikkel Boedker took the puck behind the net for a wraparound attempt. He has a phenomenal wrist shot and hockey I.Q. Rask kept this game from being four or five nothing in the opener.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 30 shots for the Knights, who will host Game 5 on Friday. Jones saw the puck well all night, and his reactions were prompt and precise as well. "We won battles on the boards, we got pucks out when we needed to and we got pucks in when we needed to". It just wasn't the Golden Knights' night. But Wednesday night, they grabbed it back and can now establish a stranglehold on the series with a win in Game 4 on Friday night.

What a way to open the scoring.
