Arab League fails to agree on US envoy recalls
One Palestinian was shot dead and at least 170 were injured, some critically, across the Gaza strip on Friday, which brought the number of those killed by Israeli forces during the six-week protest to 44 people.
The draft resolution discussed on Friday, presented by Pakistan on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and backed by 47 United Nations member states, said the investigators should look into "all violations of worldwide humanitarian law and global human rights law.in the context of the military assaults on large-scale civilian protests that began on 30 March 2018".
In a statement, the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said Pakistan would continue to support Palestinian brethren on every forum.
Thousands of Palestinians had gathered on the Gaza Strip's eastern border to take part in protests marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of Israel - which Palestinians refer to as the Nakba, Arabic for "Catastrophe" - and protest the relocation of the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The statement released by the Israeli embassy today said Israel had been acting in self-defence in compliance with global law against an internationally recognised terror organisation, Hamas. "This is not a sort of incitement or instigation by Hamas".
Protests began after the United States embassy was officially opened in Jerusalem on Monday (local time).
In addition, Mevlut Cavusoglu called on the UN General Assembly to adopt a resolution condemning the relocation of the American Embassy to Jerusalem, because the resolution in the security Council the USA will again be able to block.
Monday marked the deadliest day of cross-border violence in Gaza since a 2014 war between Israel and Hamas. Groups of demonstrators moved closer to the border fence, burned tires and threw stones or firebombs. Several council members called for an independent investigation and urged Israel to use force proportionally, while also admonishing Hamas to avoid provocation. The IDF said they used advanced technology to "locate, track, and destroy the.5 mile-long" tunnel, adding that the it "did not enter Israel".
