In escalation of diplomatic tit-for-tat, Turkey expels Israel's Istanbul consul

Reportedly, such a decision was made by the Israeli Agriculture Ministry after the two countries recalled their ambassadors.

The ministry says Naeh was subjected to a severe security screening during his departure from the airport in Istanbul that was intentionally captured by Turkish media.

Turkey on Tuesday night ordered Israel's consul general in Istanbul, Yossi Levi Safri, to leave the country immediately.

Ambassador Eitan Na'eh was seen in Istanbul's main global airport en route to Tel Aviv.

Ankara also withdrew its ambassador to Washington Serdar Kilic for consultations after the bloodshed, which came on the same day the embassy move took place.


The Turkish leader has engaged in intense telephone diplomacy to drum up support for the summit, speaking to leaders including Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Saudi King Salman, Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas and Jordan's King Abdullah.

Furthermore, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold an emergency meeting in Istanbul regarding Palestine on May 18.

"The UK-Turkey relationship is indispensable, the issues we have discussed underline just how important it is that we work ever more closely together to make our people safe and more prosperous", British Prime Minister Theresa May said. "Netanyahu has Palestinian blood on his hands and he is the Prime Minister of an Apartheid State", Erdogan said. Erdogan hit back, saying Hamas is a "resistance movement".

The Netanyahu family spokesman put out a statement saying: "Yair Netanyahu is a private person, and his Instagram page is also private".

At the same time, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also lashed out at Israel, accusing the country of being a "terror state" that has committed "a genocide".

They oppose the existence of a Jewish state before the coming of the Messiah.
