GOLD Coast's Metricon Stadium will host a major worldwide match for the first time but the Gabba has been downgraded as a Test venue in cricket's new summer schedule.
The schedule, which will see test cricket played in February for the first time in over 20 years, has been structured to avoid clashing with the domestic "Big Bash" T20 competition, which has proved a bigger drawcard for local fans than some test matches in recent seasons.
Cricket Australia (CA) said it was continuing discussions with the BCCI with a view to playing their first day-night test in Adelaide from December 6-10.
- CA still "working with" BCCI re making Adelaide Test a day-night match.
The BCCI has been opposed to the day-night Test innovation started by Australia in 2015, which Sutherland hoped will change after the Indian board had recently indicated of playing one of the two West Indies Tests under lights at home in October.
CA confirmed Australia will face South Africa in a T20I on Queensland's Gold Coast, while the new Perth Stadium and Canberra's Manuka Oval will both host Test cricket for the first time.
Warren Deutrom, chief executive of Cricket Ireland, confirmed the details of the largest broadcast rights package in Irish cricket history, which incorporates match coverage on networks in countries including the U.S. and Australia.
Apart from the Test series, India will also play three ODIs and as many T20Is.
Tests in Perth (December 14-18), Melbourne (December 26-30) and Sydney (January 3-7) follow, before three one-day internationals against India in January.
India make the trip to play in all three formats, while Sri Lanka arrive for a two-Test series.
Canberra's Manuka Oval will host its maiden Test when Australia round out their home summer of cricket in game two against Sri Lanka from February 1.
Metricon will host a T20 game between Australia and South Africa in November in a decision which will be formally announced at a press conference later today. The tour will kick off in Australia from November 21 and will start with T20 clashes.
Sutherland described that news as a "win for fans".
The series continues with the Boxing Day test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from December 26 and wraps up in the New Year at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Jan. 3-7).
