LIVE RADAR: Winter storm causes dangerous driving conditions, power outages
Sunday, a mix of freezing rain and sleet but - and this is good news - the ice won't accumulate.
The weather maps continue to look scary-snowy for much of southern Minnesota Friday night and Saturday.
The weather service on Wednesday expected less than an inch of snow to fall in Lincoln - and perhaps nothing in Omaha. Little or no ice accumulation expected. By the technical definition, the wind and snow will combine for blizzard conditions late Friday into Saturday morning across a portion of Northern Kansas.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS.Plan on hard travel conditions. Significant reductions in visibility are possible.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
If freezing rain continues risky roadway conditions and power outages are likely to develop. Because of the snow and wind, a WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect for most of the area through midnight Sunday night. Temperatures are likely to drop a few degrees this evening and overnight, causing icy conditions, then rise above freezing for a time during the day tomorrow, then back below freezing for Sunday night and early Monday. As colder air moves in, expect the freezing line to dip further to the south.
In fact, the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for northern and western Siouxland from Friday evening into Saturday evening. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 15 inches are possible across central and west central Minnesota, with totals tapering off to 3 or 6 inches across south central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin.
The National Weather Service says parts of Nebraska could get up to 14 inches of snow, with up to 10 inches in Iowa.
