"Since implementing these travel restrictions and the 180-day review process in September 2017, the Administration has recorded notable improvements in identity management and information sharing with foreign governments", DHS officials said in a statement Tuesday.
Homeland Security Secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, said: "It's critically important that we know who is entering the United States".
Originally, Trump placed the ban on Chad after Chadian officials had issues supplying the United States with passport samples. USA officials also said Chad was unable to adequately share public safety and terrorism-related information with US officials who screen foreigners seeking to enter the country.
The central African country's government, which the USA calls a "critical" partner in fighting terrorism, had expressed astonishment in September previous year when the U.S. unexpectedly added it to a list of five other countries under a travel ban.
The State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert, said the travel restrictions placed on Chad will be terminated Friday, adding that the "improved practices" by Chad "demonstrate a clear off-ramp for countries placed on the travel restriction list".
The ban on Chad nationals obtaining visas required for visiting the United States operated for around six months.
"Chad also improved its handling of lost and stolen passports, which helps the United States and other partners prevent fraudulent use of the documents, " the proclamation said.
With Chad now taken off the list, the remaining countries still include two Muslim-majority African countries namely Libya and Somalia.
The ban was applied in a limited way to officials from certain Venezuelan government agencies as well. The tailored travel restrictions imposed by Proclamation 9645, and reaffirmed by todays proclamation the President today, will keep our country safe and encourage countries to meet our baseline requirements.
