Instagram To Introduce “Nametags”: A Copy Of Snapchat's SnapCodes

Focus: Instagram's New Camera Format In Stories

Facebook's photo-sharing platform, Instagram will soon allow its users to download their data.

In March, Facebook, as part of its privacy updates, announced that users can access data shared with the platform by downloading a secure copy and moving it to another service.

Instagram in a statement to TechCrunch said, "We are building a new data portability tool". Of course, there are hundreds of other tools and platforms available which lets you download the data from users' profiles. The rule will also require companies to delete data upon user request.

The new tool should come in handy for anyone looking to leave Instagram for another photo- and video-sharing social network.

When you open your camera in the Instagram Stories mode, you'll now see a new option called Focus, right beside Boomerang and Superzoom.

With the above, Instagrammers on iOS get another feature - the @mention sticker - which makes it "even easier to connect with friends" in stories.

The Instagram spokesperson did not reveal a specific launch date for the tool, but it will likely be rolled out before May 25. It is not known whether Instagram will allow downloading of data like likes, comments and captions which are shared with the posts. No problem; the tool will let you pick a color gradient background, a pattern or a selfie spruced up with AR filters.

Besides, Instagram has also not clarified whether the photos and videos that its users will be able to download will be in their original resolution or will be compressed.

Of course, Instagram has far more serious reasons to incorporate this feature as soon as possible than simple customer convenience.

Techcrunch notes that, like Snapcodes, Nametags could eventually be used by influencers across social media as a seamless promotional tool - given that they do away with the need to search for users by hand.
