In new book, Comey says Trump is 'untethered to truth'

Former FBI Director James Comey is being branded a liar and political operative by Republicans as he prepares for his book tour. AP
Republicans are launching a preemptive strike against former FBI Director James Comey's credibility, labeling him "Lyin' Comey" in advance of his book and publicity tour in which he is expected to trash President Trump.
Comey's account lands at a particularly sensitive moment for Trump and the White House. The site is reportedly one part of a larger effort by President Trump's allies to attack Comey ahead of his book launch next week. Republicans will argue that Comey "repeatedly usurped" the authority of then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and violated protocol by "publicly acknowledging the existence of ongoing FBI investigations".
Since Trump dismissed Comey during the fourth year of a 10-year term he has remained largely silent, with the exception of testifying last summer on Capitol Hill and a handful of searing tweets aimed at the President. Later, he asks Comey point blank whether or not Trump should be impeached. "He's going to seemingly everywhere". "And they can judge for themselves who is honorable and who is not".
The Comey interview left people in the room stunned - he told George things that he's never said before.
Republicans are attempting to portray Comey as a liar and political operative with no credibility. He was appointed USA attorney for the Southern District of NY and deputy attorney general by President George W. Bush; he was appointed Federal Bureau of Investigation director by President Barack Obama.
The book will be released on April 17.
Among those quoted on the RNC website is the 2016 Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, who argued her campaign was seriously undercut by the FBI's investigation, overseen by Comey, into her use of a private email server while secretary of state.
