Apple is reportedly in the early stages of developing two features for future iPhones: touchless gesture controls and curved screens.

Bloomberg reported that Apple is pushing to apply this non-contact technology to the new iPhone, quoting multiple sources. Similarly, the new touchless gesture will also take into account the distance of fingers from the screen to add some new and high-tech elements to the technology.

"We believe the new iPhones and OLED design will be a key part of this delayed mega-cycle we expect to manifest with Apple customers in 2018 and into 2019", Daniel Ives, head of technology research at GBH Insights, tells Barron's.

Samsung offered similar gesture controls, dubbed Air Gestures, on its Galaxy S4 smartphone years ago. So some finger movements close to the screen will be enough to perform actions, but the technology for it will not be ready for at least two years, the report notes.

Apple is also redesigning iPhone screens to curve inward towards the middle; different from Samsung which curve at the edges. A simple wave of a hand across the screen would let the user take calls and flip through web-pages. However, Apple's plans are significantly different concepts.

Mobile device management (MDM) vendor Jamf is warning admins to hold off on installing the iOS 11.3 update until it can fix a bug in its software that was causing devices to become unresponsive. The new OLED iPhone X will have a screen size of 6.5 inches as compared to the previous iPhone X size 5.8 inch. Of course, they've never done an inverted curved screen before, but considering Apple's doing it, they may follow suit. This feature used a motion sensor on the phone's bezel instead of being built into the display.

Loyal Apple customers have always a vested interest in the upgrades, be it software or hardware; this has driven Apple to innovate and experiment unceasingly. Also, talking about Apple producing a new sort of device is exciting, so any whisper is more likely jumped upon than most other news bits.
