Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah comes out of Parliament during the budget session in New Delhi on Monday

Party president Amit Shah will address an expected 100,000 party workers at the event, termed a "Virat Melava" (mega convention) by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. "The countdown for 2019 Lok Sabha elections has begun". Referring to Shah's comments that the Opposition parties unity efforts are akin to "snakes, mongooses, cats, dogs, leopards and lions" coming together during a natural calamity like floods, the Congress leader said the BJP leader should first look at the track record of his own great leaders in 1975 "who formed a collective opposition against Congress rule". As the tale goes, snakes, mongoose, cats and dogs catch hold of the remaining trees to save their lives when the flood hits a village.

While elaborating the party's present strength, BJP State Vice President of Minority Morcha Advocate Syed Wajahat Hussain said in 1980's, BJP had only two MP's, which now has crossed over to 286 MPs and the party is presently ruling over 72 per cent of the country's population.

"Rahul Baba, we want to ask you - What did your party do when it was in power for four generations?"

Training a gun at Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Shah said, "When we lost two Lok Sabha seats recently Rahul Gandhi distributed candies". The Congress lost its deposits in both the polls.

Modi accused the Congress of paralysing Parliament proceedings during the Budget Session, which ended today, and said it was "throttling" democracy and "abusing" people's mandate.

Shah said: "There are deliberate lies being spread".

BJP's Maharashtra president Raosaheb Danve said special arrangements have been made to bring the party workers to Mumbai in trains, buses and jeeps. "It was the Opposition that disrupted the proceedings", he said replying to the allegations of the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad that the government was running away from debate. We are not afraid, its them who did not allow parliament to function. We are not scared of discussing anything. "Even if you try to annul reservations, we will not let you do it".

Continuing his attack Shah reminded Gandhi about BJP wresting power from it 11 states since 2014. "He told us that we have to utilise the policies and programmes of the Centre and state governments to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots", said a BJP legislator here. From Maharashtra to Haryana from Jharkhand to Manipur, Assam and Uttarakhand, BJP is everywhere.

"In four years of rule, BJP has worked tirelessly for welfare of Dalits, under-privileged, illiterates". But it is still not our golden period.

Earlier, in his address at the rally on the occasion of the BJP's 38th Foundation Day, Shah expressed confidence that the BJP will win the 2019 polls, "not by giving hollow assurances but on the basis of work done by the Modi government".
