Family members of Kevin and Amy Sharp and their two children - 12-year-old Sterling Wayne Sharp and 7-year-old Adrianna Marie Sharp - were making funeral arrangements today, a day after Mexican authorities informed them that autopsies showed their relatives died as a result of "asphyxiation by inhalation of toxic gases".
Officials in Mexico located the family at the condominium in Akumal they were renting at a resort and later said that the family died due to inhaling toxic gases. The Sharps were supposed to return to the United States on Wednesday evening, leaving Cancun around 2:45 p.m. and arriving in St. Louis at about 6 p.m., family members said. Local authorities' states that there were no signs of foul play or signs of violence in the crime scene and were able to rule out suicide.
Then, the family tracked Kevin Sharp's phone using Apple's Find my iPhone app. The Sharps were supporters of the Creston, Iowa-based school. But the extended family waited until Thursday night to call authorities in case the Sharps had problems with their flight.
