Smith slams Rabada decision, says standard now set on physical contact

Rabada's ban overturned, cleared to play in Cape Town

Kagiso Rabada has won his appeal against suspension and is free to play against Australia in the third test starting

"He bumped me a little bit harder than it actually looked on the footage".

Although Smith claimed "it didn t bother me too much", he went on to say, "they ve obviously decided what s deliberate contact and what s not and apparently it wasn t".

"I think in any hearing you've got to be as happy as you can be", Moosajee said after the hearing. "What's the point of over-celebrating and getting in the face of a batter?" he asked.

"We got some momentum from the win in Port Elizabeth and KG being available has lifted everybody as well".

Michael Heron, who heard the appeal, said he couldn't be "comfortably satisfied" that Rabada meant to make contact with Smith and found him not guilty of the charge under the International Cricket Council's code of conduct.

The ICC said it accepted the decision of the independent judicial hearing but also reminded players of their "responsibilities to maintaining a standard of behavior which sets a good example to players at all levels of the game".

Rabada had been suspended for the remainder of the series for brushing against Smith's shoulder in the second Test, but was cleared to play after an appeal. I certainly won't be telling my bowlers to go out there and after you take a wicket go and get in their space. "I don't think that is on and part of the game", ESPNcricinfo quoted Smith, as saying.

Steven Smith has now gone three Tests without a hundred, a significant drought by his lofty standards.

Rabada brushed Smith's shoulder during a screaming send-off that marred the second Test, earning himself a two-Test ban after grabbing man-of-the-match figures of 11-150. "The number one bowler in the world being allowed to play is exciting for everyone concerned", Gibson said at Newlands on Tuesday. He also shut down claims on Vernon Philander's social media account that he had staged the incident.

Another top-class fast bowler from the past, Vincent Barnes - who is the current Cricket South Africa high performance manager - said on Twitter: "Fantastic news. We have two massive Test matches to come and we will have to play at our best to beat South Africa". "Unfortunately, I couldn't. I think that's all a load of garbage, to be honest with you".

Smith's comments are sure to create even more bad blood between the rivals at Newlands, where the series continues on Thursday. "We'll speak out in the middle, we won't do anything I guess to antagonise him into making the sorts of mistakes he's been (making)".

The Aussie captain continued, "The way he handled both sides throughout the two Test matches, I thought he did a terrific job". I had just been given out. So I was trying to see whether I could find a way to still be out in the middle. Both captains said they had discussed with new match referee Andy Pycroft about the spirit in which the game should be played.

To overturn the Rabada suspension is wrong, but it's great for the series so I'm not displeased.
