San Francisco police released a statement Sunday naming Smith as a suspect in the Saturday night incident.

"I'm scared for his life with his addiction", McKnight said to TMZ. Smith has a long history of off-field incidents that have derailed his National Football League career, and his life.

The Raiders have made a decision to release the disgruntled linebacker after he was involved in an alleged incident of domestic violence over the weekend.

Smith, who recently got engaged, is now being pursued by police, who would like to discuss the incident further.

Police later confirmed that the visit came after a false report that Smith had returned to the building, one of several that authorities had received over the course of the day.

After the alleged incident occurred, the 28-year-old fled the scene before police arrived around 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bush Street residence. "I cannot comment on the altercation, but I can tell you I love him and (am) so happy he turned to my family, who considers him family". He voluntarily entered rehab and missed five games that season.

Nearly one year ago, Smith was charged with public intoxication following an accident in which his then-girlfriend hit a police vehicle while driving Smith's SUV.

"Caller says her ex-boyfriend is beating her up ... also hear: 'No please. San Francisco officers planned to ask Oakland police for assistance".

Smith hasn't played a snap in the NFL since 2015 when he was suspended indefinitely for violating the league's substance-abuse and personal conduct policies.

Smith hasn't played for the Raiders in more than two years, but the one-year contract he signed on April 4, 2016 would have been valid should he ever have been reinstated by the NFL. Smith was charged with three felony counts - later reduced to misdemeanors - of illegal possession of an assault weapon for an 2012 incident in which he was reportedly stabbed.
