The announcements mark the largest victory to date for gun control advocates since the school shooting survivors, turned gun control activists, of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School sparked a national gun control conversation, leading many to claim "this time's different". Media attention created the perception that this is a monumental move, when the reality of the company's impact is debatable, at best.
Along with the new age restrictions, Walmart made a decision to update their website by taking down any items that resemble assault rifles.
"We did everything by the book, we did everything that the law required, and still he was able to buy a gun", Stack said.
"They have to do what their conscious tells them to do", Parker said. "Dick's Sporting Goods should be applauded".

In a statement, Walmart said: "We take seriously our obligation to be a responsible seller of firearms". The store has no plans on changing anything about their business and will continue to follow federal guidelines. "We have to help solve the problem that's in front of us".
Dick's is not the first retailer to stop selling the semi-automatic guns. The NRA has pushed back aggressively against calls for raising age limits for guns or restricting the sale of assault-style weapons. It also turns out the alleged school shooter Nikolas Cruz, 19, legally purchased the assault rifle he used in the shooting from Dick's.
