The announcements mark the largest victory to date for gun control advocates since the school shooting survivors, turned gun control activists, of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School sparked a national gun control conversation, leading many to claim "this time's different". The CEO is the son of the company's founder and has held the CEO position for 34 years.

The gun issue has embroiled a number of companies since the Parkland shooting, from Delta Airlines to FedEx.

In response to companies cutting ties, supporters of the NRA have sprung into action with boycotts of their own. But Dick's owns dozens of its Field & Stream stores, where there has been no such ban in place.

However, after the Florida shootings he thinks politicians might feel some pressure to do something and it could be a 21-year-old minimum age for the purchase of all firearms.

No longer sell high-capacity magazines.

"We do not sell assault-style firearms, high-capacity firearms, bump stocks or handguns of any kind", L.L. Bean tweeted.

"L.L. Bean only sells firearms specifically for hunting, and only in our ME store after comprehensive background checks in compliance with State/Fed law".

After the December 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the company halted sales of military-style rifles like the AR-15, which, along with AK-47s, are categorized by the gun industry as "modern sporting rifles".

Media attention created the perception that this is a monumental move, when the reality of the company's impact is debatable, at best.

Dick's Sporting Goods announced Wednesday they'll stop selling assault-style weapons and raise the minimum age to buy all guns to 21.

Along with the new age restrictions, Walmart made a decision to update their website by taking down any items that resemble assault rifles.

"We did everything by the book, we did everything that the law required, and still he was able to buy a gun", Stack said.

"They have to do what their conscious tells them to do", Parker said. "Dick's Sporting Goods should be applauded".

"We have heard you", Stack wrote.

"We're just not doing any interviews at all", he said.

In a statement, Walmart said: "We take seriously our obligation to be a responsible seller of firearms". The store has no plans on changing anything about their business and will continue to follow federal guidelines. "We have to help solve the problem that's in front of us".

Dick's is not the first retailer to stop selling the semi-automatic guns. The NRA has pushed back aggressively against calls for raising age limits for guns or restricting the sale of assault-style weapons. It also turns out the alleged school shooter Nikolas Cruz, 19, legally purchased the assault rifle he used in the shooting from Dick's.
