Cleveland Browns trade for Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry, per reports

10 March 2018, 01:20 | Rose Hansen

He's more of a possession receiver than a big play waiting to happen, but that's exactly what Cleveland needs: A player who can move the chains.

The Browns are sending two draft picks to Miami in exchange for Landry, per ESPN's Adam Schefter, who added that no first- or second-round picks were involved, and the Browns are expected to give Landry a multiyear contract.

Exact terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed.

The Browns have over $113 million in salary cap space, and they didn't mind paying a three-time Pro Bowl receiver to come to Cleveland.

Landry signed a $16 million, one-year franchise tag Thursday with Miami, clearing the path for a trade.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the deal involves a 2018 pick and a 2019 pick from Cleveland. However, his 987 receiving yards in 2017 was one of the lowest totals for any wideout catching 100 or more passes in a season. The Dolphins, meanwhile, still have DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills as their top two receivers.

Hue Jackson has handed his offense over to former Pittsburgh coordinator Todd Haley, who should know how to best use a player of Landry's skill after coaching Antonio Brown the past few seasons. He also wanted to be among the highest paid receivers in the NFL. 7 in the National Football League and 29 more than any player on the Browns. A trade is "not imminent" and the Dolphins are over the cap, making them an unlikely suitor for free agents.
