Use of triamcinolone in competition does not breach anti-doping regulations, provided it is granted through the TUE system, but a TUE is not required to take the powerful drug out of competition, and Sapstead wants tighter rules.

They've had the go-ahead from the powers that be to use that substance.

Did Team Sky use drugs for medical reasons or was there a darker goal?

In a statement, Team Sky said they were "happy to co-operate with any investigation by the UCI and would welcome further scrutiny of the Select Committee's report".

Lappartient, who beat incumbent ex-British Cycling boss Brian Cookson in a landslide UCI election in September, said the governing body's independent anti-doping unit, the CADF, should follow up the committee's report to "to see if there is some violation of (the) anti-doping rules".

"We consider it important that, regardless of the nationality of athletes and teams, anti-doping rules are enforced consistently and fairly".

Bradley Wiggins says he is the subject of a "malicious" attempt to smear his name as he denied accusations from British lawmakers that he used banned substances to enhance his performance while preparing to win the 2012 Tour de France. Wiggins subsequently won the overall title.

Pressure was building on Dave Brailsford to resign from his position as head of Team Sky following the news that they face another major anti-doping investigation.

Wiggins said this week that he only used prescribed drugs for valid medical reasons and when asked if he categorically denied cheating, added: "A hundred per cent".

The UCI said they shared the committee's concerns about the use of corticosteroids and the painkiller Tramadol in cycling. "You have to put this in the context of the time".

Mr Lappartient told BBC Sport that the findings of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) select committee "could affect the global credibility of the sport".

Although Froome turned up with a level of the asthma drug salbutamol double the legal limit en route to winning the Vuelta a Espana almost six months ago, his case is yet to be resolved. We can see in this report that it seems to be a little bit different, ' said Lappartient.

"But it seems they have created these wrongdoings so I really think that the issue for him is to think about the future of his team - of all the employees, all the riders".

"I've never seen anything like that. It's not my experience within the team that that's how the team operates,"he said".

Sutton continued: "The report is that he [Wiggins] didn't cheat, so come forward and tell everybody what you went through, how many times you administered this particular corticosteroid or whatever to combat what you were going through, and then let's just put it to bed".

"I can not say I know a lot about Brad's use of it in or out of competition", the controversial Australian said to Sky Sports. "I hope we can have it at least before the Tour de France in July because, can you imagine if he's riding the Giro and with spectators crying against him, or if at the end he's disqualified from the Giro - that's something hard for our sport". He now says he was referring to injections without a TUE - just one of the myriad contradictions that continue to be picked apart as the case unfolds.
