A long victory drought on the PGA Tour ended Sunday, just not the one most people - Casey included - were expecting.

"Well, I think that I've gotten a little bit better than I was a couple weeks ago at Honda, keep getting a little bit better and sharper and today wasn't quite as sharp as I would like to have had it but I had a good shot as winning this golf tournament".

"It's got to the point where it's gone the other way, where actually I'm playing very free golf, very relaxed and very at peace with whatever happens on the golf course".

"But Nutta always looked after me and still does to this day and always welcome and watch me at Wentworth, Mary would always tag along and drove up to Scotland to see my very first victory".

"I felt very comfortable out there today though I didn't feel that sharp with my iron game and I had to play very conservatively into the greens as I wasn't as sharp as I was yesterday", he said. I wanted to play one last time before he moved on and unfortunately I just couldn't play.

Nevertheless, after turning in a level-par 36, Woods was still very much in contention, two behind a surging Casey, who stormed into first place as three birdies in succession from the 11th took him to six under for the day and 10 under for the tournament. I could have made a couple, missed a short one at four, should have birdied 14.

No one caught him, giving him his second PGA Tour title and his first since the Houston Open in 2009.

The 40-year-old began the final round five shots off the lead but carded four birdies and a bogey in a front nine of 33, before rolling in a hat-trick of birdies from the 11th.

Patrick Reed was tied for the lead and appeared headed for a playoff at worst until his approach to the 18th came back down the slope, and his 45-foot birdie putt was so weak that it rolled all the way back to his feet. "Worked so hard for it - it's tough to put it into words". I know that was a long putt but I was trying to leave it below the hole.

"I loved it. I played great".

"I've been watching him swing and he's really got it in good positions, " said Ernie Els, the Hall of Famer who has been friend and rival to Woods for 20-plus years. I'm finding the rhythm of the rounds, I'm hitting shots, I don't have a problem posting scores.

Masters champion Sergio Garcia finished fourth after also carding a closing 65, with Ryder Cup team-mate Justin Rose a disappointing joint fifth.

Two shots behind going to the back nine, with Casey running out of birdie chances, Woods failed to birdie both par 5s.
