Edwin Jackson, Indianapolis Colts Linebacker, Killed By Drunk Driver
President Trump on Tuesday tweeted criticism at Democrats while noting an undocumented immigrant was suspected of killing two men - including an National Football League player - in a drunken driving accident Sunday in Indiana. Police say he slammed his Ford F-150 pickup into Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe as they were standing on the emergency shoulder of Interstate 70 in Indianapolis early Sunday morning.
Investigators say the suspect, 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala, has twice been deported from the US and was illegally living in the country at the time of Sunday's crash in Indianapolis.
"Williams says it made him "sick" to see Trump using Jackson's death as a rallying cry for his immigration policy ... since the guy whoallegedly killed Jackson was living in the US illegally".
The crash highlights the need for building a U.S. -Mexico border wall, "ending sanctuary cities and stopping illegal immigration once and for all", he said in a statement.
Orrego-Savala was charged in court Wednesday with two counts each of felony failure to remain at the scene of an accident and causing death when operating a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent of.15 or more, according to court documents.
Police say the 26-year-old Jackson and 54-year-old Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe were standing outside Monroe's auto along I-70 when they were struck by a pickup truck that Orrego-Savala was driving.
Edwin Jackson, 26, started eight games in 2016 for the Colts, but did not play this past season due to an injury. According to a release from Indiana State Police, Edwin Jackson was the passenger in an Uber vehicle when he got sick. He is scheduled for an initial hearing in Marion County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
"I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Indianapolis @Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson", Pence tweeted Monday.
Both men were outside the auto when a black Ford F-150 drove into the shoulder and struck the vehicle.
"Edwin was loved by all in the Colts organization", the team said. The two more serious counts each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. We have weak-kneed republicans, country club republicans who sit back and say "thoughts a prayers" and this and that. His other aliases include variations on the spelling of Orrego-Savala.
Cops say both men were struck and killed by a pickup truck driven by Orrego-Savala, who was drunk and driving without a license, authorities allege. "This is a great loss for the entire IN community". Jackson and Monroe were both pronounced dead early Sunday morning in a tragedy that has shaken the entire Colts family.
Trump was not the only GOP politician to use Jackson's death to renew calls for increased security along the southern US border with Mexico.
