3 law enforcement officers reportedly shot in Georgia

Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer said the shooting happened Friday morning when the two deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant on an unidentified man at a residence in Locust Grove. the sheriff said that after talking to the suspect for about 10 minutes, they realized they would have difficulty arresting the man.

The Locust Grove officer died at the scene.

"They notified radio and a Locust Grove city police officer came to be a backup for them", McBrayer said during a news briefing.

The newspaper reported that two Henry County deputies and one Locust Grove officer wer shot.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.

"Police officers don't get paid enough for what they have to do", Wade Corley said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Henry County deputies Michael Corley and Ralph Sidwell "Sid" Callaway were serving a warrant because the suspect failed to appear in court. One sheriff's deputy is in serious condition and in surgery right now at Atlanta Medical [Center].


The agency said Locust Grove police Officer Chase Maddox was killed in the Friday shooting.

Price said Maddox had been with the department since he was 22, just out of school.

He said they had no reason to believe when they arrived that the suspect would be violent.

He said it happened as the officers were serving an arrest warrant that morning at a home in Locust Grove, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southeast of Atlanta. Two have been flown to a local hospital and one was taken by ambulance.

Police blocked off the subdivision and were not letting those who don't live there enter.

"It's scary because you never know who is in your neighborhood".
