Snow is expected to begin falling in the region at around 7am tomorrow, until around 3pm.
According to Met Éireann, rainfall this afternoon and evening will give a total 24-hour rainfall accumulation for Saturday of between 25 and 35 mm.
Temperatures plummeted to -2C overnight - with both the Gardaí and Road Safety Authority (RSA) warning that many areas would be at risk of compacted snow and black ice making driving surface very slippery.
Looking ahead, we're set for another cold, unsettled week.
The status yellow alert which warns of wintry showers and accumulations (of snow) of up to 3cm in some places is due to remain in place throughout Sunday. Temperatures in the north will be 8C at their highest, with the south-west enjoying slightly higher temperatures of 12C.
The rain will turn increasingly to snow on higher ground later in the evening, with journey times likely to be impacted and some interruptions to power services possible.
Showers and blustery weather is forecast for the north-west, where the highest temperatures us expected to be around 5C, with the south-west's at about 7C.
More snow possible Tuesday
As the evening continues, freezing rain is likely, possibly mixed with snow and becoming all freezing after midnight. Brisk northwest winds will mean some lake effect snow later Wednesday night and Thursday and colder temperatures.
