"It's of course always a hard situation and we will have to manage this situation with Riyad", Puel said.

Puel refusued to comment on whether the club had fined the player with a £200,000 two-weeks wages rap expected to be implemented.

'It's a hard situation. We have to move forward and to have focus on the football.

"Clubs don't have to say yes, they're in a position to push a bit harder in the negotiations, but they also knew City needed to get it done quickly so there's that time element there as well".

"We can't change anything about the situation".

'I understand his disappointment.

'His team-mates wait for Riyad to come back.

'Even now, when Leicester look at the bigger picture, surely they will have to concede that Riyad Mahrez has been an unbelievably good player for them... but it's time to let him fulfil his potential'.

It is understood that the 26-year-old Algeria global is feeling so low that he is not in the right frame of mind to play.

"I will assess Riyad when he clears his head".

The former England worldwide went on the say that he believed Mahrez would definitely have started for City had the move gone through, especially considering their current injuries.

The Foxes were left in the dark by Mahrez's absence ahead of the trip to Goodison Park.

'A move to City would nearly guarantee him winning more trophies, possibly including the Champions League, and a chance to play for Pep Guardiola, arguably the best coach on the planet.

Mahrez has been in outstanding form for Leicester after the arrival of Puel as manager in October.

In the English top-flight, Coutinho has scored 41 goals in 152 appearances, good for a goal every 3.7 games.
