Instagram now ALERTS people when YOU take a screenshot, just like SnapChat
The days of quietly lurking on someone's Instagram may be numbered, as the app begins testing a feature that would let you know if somebody has screenshotted your story.
Users are not happy, with some tweeting that people now have to "creep wisely".
The feature being tested is an icon in the shape of a camera shutter next to the name of the user who snapped an image. Screenshot notifications are rolling out to Instagram, with warnings to the screenshot taker that the story poster will be notified if screenshots continue. The feature may not even make to a release if Instagram notices that many users stopped watching Stories, for example.
Now, there is a loophole for particularly dedicated social sleuths: putting your phone in Airplane Mode allows you to sneak a screenshot to your heart's content without triggering the notification.
Another workaround that'll avoid the feature involves using an internet browser.
If this feature is launched, then it would align Instagram with Snapchat in terms of how both platforms deal with screenshots. But taking a screenshot of someone's picture, story, or video and texting it to your friend is also a fabulous way to gossip in the internet age.
Since the feature is now on testing phase, only users that are part of the test are able to have a sneak peek of it.
It's not the first time Instagram has notified users when someone screenshots their photo.
Earlier, Instagram gave notification when someone took screenshot of private direct message.
That's largely because Snapchat is known for its ephemeral nature, wherein users can privately send and receive messages that disappear after up to 10 seconds.
