White House to send framework for resuming immigration negotiations

Sen. Schumer I offered Trump his wall

On Thursday, Trump proposed legislation that would provide a path to citizenship for as many as 1.8 million young undocumented immigrants in exchange slashing legal immigration, his beloved wall, and a crackdown on other undocumented immigrants living in the U.S.

The White House submitted the new plan to Congress Thursday.

House Democrats quickly bristled at a White House framework that would give 1.8 million DREAMers a path to citizenship, arguing that the deal for DACA beneficiaries is cover to "implement a mass deportation agenda".

According to Trump's proposal, the undocumented immigrants could become United States citizens over a 10 to 12 year period if they met certain requirements. The president added that he wants $25 billion to secure America's borders.

Evangelicals leaders are celebrating Donald Trump's announcement of a "pathway" that could allow hundreds of thousands of people, brought into the U.S. illegally as children, to apply for citizenship. "So I think it would be a profound mistake and not consistent with the promises we made to the voters to enact a pathway to citizenship to DACA recipients or to others who are here illegally".

The plan represents a sharp shift in United States immigration policies.

It was a reversal for the president, who had previously said he was opposed to a pathway to citizenship for Dreamer immigrants.

Congressman John Lewis, an American civil rights icon who once marched with Martin Luther King Jr, said he will not attend the January 30 address because Trump used a vulgar slur to describe some countries during a meeting with lawmakers about a possible bipartisan immigration deal.

DREAMERS SHOULD SUBMIT DACA RENEWALS WHILE THEY CAN!

"We will not and can not support this White House immigration proposal".

"DACA has been made increasingly hard by the fact that Cryin' Chuck Schumer took such a beating over the shutdown that he is unable to act on immigration!"

'I'm pleased to see the White House offer a framework for Dreamers, ' Moore said. Trump promised during his 2016 presidential campaign a tough crackdown on illegal immigration, but has extended this to narrowing the doors for legal immigrants and refugees.

"I applaud the president for releasing a realistic framework that meets the four immigration pillars agreed by both Republican and Democratic leaders earlier this month", said Republican Senator Thom Tillis. "I'm negotiating with someone - I'm not going to say he got badly beaten".

One senior official said the young immigrants would not be targeted, but are "illegal immigrants" who would be processed for deportation if they came into contact with immigration officers.

And for entirely different reasons, the framework was also torn apart by immigration hawks and restrictionist groups, who panned it as a self-defeating giveaway to Democrats. "I said, 'We'll take it, '" Schumer added.

"Chain migration, visa lotteries that don't work, a lot of these situations have to be remedied before we can solve the problem because otherwise the problem's just gonna materialize again", Davidiuk said. The little stuff here - all aimed at ensuring that when we catch illegal immigrants at the border we can detain and send them home - is much more important than a wall itself.
