Gunfire explosions rock the Kabul military academy

The attack on the Afghan Military Academy this morning had the fingerprints of the Pakistan Army as the equipment used were issued by the Pakistan Army and have been supplied earlier to the Lashkar-e-Toiba and other terror groups.

Militant group ISIS (Islamic State) claimed responsibility for the attack on the military university in Kabul. In the attack, 5 army soldiers were killed and 10 others wounded.

One of the attackers blew himself up, one had been killed and two were still fighting.

"They are under siege by our forces", said Waziri.

Basir Mujahid, a spokesman for the Kabul police, said the attack was on a military unit close to the university and not the university itself.

Both those attacks were claimed by the Taliban.

On 20 January, Taliban insurgents stormed Kabul's landmark Intercontinental hotel and killed at least 25 people, the majority foreigners, in an ordeal lasting more than 12 hours.

Smaller blasts at less frequent intervals could still be heard, he said.

A series of explosions and a gunfire have been reported in the area of a military academy in Afghanistan's capital, Sputnik reported.

On Saturday, a Taliban attacker drove an ambulance filled with explosives into the heart of the city, killing at least 103 people and wounding as many as 235.

In a month, this is the third major terrorist assault in the Afghan capital.

In October a Taliban suicide bomber killed 15 Afghan army trainees as they travelled home from the Marshal Fahim academy.

Afghan media reports suggest the attack began with explosions, which may have been a rocket attack on the gate of the facility. Another 2 attackers were killed in the ensuing encounter and 1 was arrested.

Kabul remains on high alert as the city braces for further attacks.

He also said that four people have been arrested in connection with Saturday's ambulance attack.
