We have been expecting the same Flexible displays and panels by different giants during this year's Consumer Electronics Show and LG has blessed us with this new Rollable OLED display already.
It can roll up and hidden in when not in use. You can roll the screen up and tuck when you want to watch the TV. It will be displaying the screen at CES 2018 meeting, which is planned to occur from January 9, 2018, to January12, 2018, in the U.S.at Las Vegas.
CES 2018 has just started but companies have wasted no time in announcing their latest technology.
All these reminders of the rising OLED trend lifted Universal Display shares to new all-time highs, posting a 241% return over the last 52 weeks. In fact, LG a few years ago showcased an 18-inch OLED display that could also be bent and rolled up like a paper.
It is reported to be one of the world's first true "rollable" TVs.
CES is the first platform of choice for companies around the globe to showcase their upcoming products and future technologies. That also means the rolled up portion of the new LG panel won't use any power while the strip at the top is in use. Hisense, TCL, Samsung and Sony will make an an appearance at the event later today. It revealed its 88-inch 8K TV, alongside the new ThinQ software, a week before CES kicked off. LG has also upgraded in the audio category from the current standard 2.1 channel sound to 3.1 channel sound.
"The growing number of available OLED TV choices, especially high-profile Japanese and European brands, has resulted in more competition and pricing promotion activity in the OLED TV market".
The company's most impressive reveal at the show is a record-breaking 88-inch OLED TV featuring glorious 8K resolution. Scott Huffman VP, Engineering, Google Assistant, took to the stage to talk about Google's partnership with LG in products like the upcoming ThinQ AI speaker, a new LG Tone Active headset which will have a dedicated button for Assistant. You might soon need sunglasses indoors if Samsung keeps upping the brightness at this rate.
