Google App Finds Your Fine Art Lookalike: How to Use It

'Face match' makes Google Arts & Culture most downloaded free app on US App Store

Though the feature is officially restricted to U.S. only for now, that hasn't stopped people from other countries for accessing the Google Arts & Culture app's latest feature and posting their own "selfie doppelganger". However, do not open the app immediately after downloading. "(Select locations only)", according to the app description.

The No. 1 free app in the country gives you both the chance to appreciate some fine art and have a laugh while you're doing it.

In another example of the development of Google's image recognition, a feature was added to Photos in October that lets users sort pictures of their pets, even differentiating between dog breeds.

Though the viral new feature is restricted to the United States, it can be accessed through VPNs in other regions as well.

Though anyone can download and use the Google Arts & Culture app, the new feature is now region locked to USA and not available in India and other countries.

Users then need to scroll down to a card in the app, saying "Is your portrait in a museum?" and then click "I Accept".

In all seriousness, the processing time is minimal and there's a hilarious moment of suspense as you wait for the app to tell you which art work your face most closely resembles.

This is its selfie option - the most recent update, which enables users to take selfies and, most prominently, to compare themselves to works of art.

One asterisk on the app is that it's not available in all areas, as a Google Spokesperson told SFGate that the app is limited to the United States, minus IL and Texas.

The Google Arts & Culture app has created quite a frenzy with users all over the world, sharing their museum match on social networking sites. Then, it will present you with the top matches, with a percentage that indicates how close a match it thinks you are. I recommend the art camera feature, which allows you to explore high-definition artworks.
