And then 'forgets' words to national anthem

Trump Security Strategy

President Donald Trump stumbled his way through a rendition of the U.S. national anthem at a college football game in Atlanta, Georgia, on Monday night.

Unlike the NFL, the college football players were not on the field when the national anthem was played.

Mr Trump remembered to put his hand over his heart but seemed to forget the lyrics before making a fumbling recovery.

It is also pertinent to mention Trump pushed the national anthem as a partisan issue shortly before the game during a speech to the American Farm Bureau Federation in Tennessee, tweeting, "We want our flag respected - and we want our NATIONAL ANTHEM respected also!" Unlike the NFL, nearly no college football teams take the field until after the national anthem, according to The Associated Press. Although it is not sure of what Trump was singing, Twitterati made up their mind claiming that the president didn't know the words of the anthem.

This is the President of the #United States that we're talking about. He has publicly blasted several players previous year for not respecting the anthem or the flag.

Flank by members of the military, Trump, with his right hand over his heart, appeared to mumble his way through the anthem, at times clearly mouthing other words that weren't in the Star Spangled Banner.

He was escorted onto the field for the "Star-Spangled Banner".

Aravosis said: "This is priceless, as only 3 hours after he tweeted this Trump tried to sing the National Anthem and forgot the words".

Barack Obama has done both, and said in 2016 that "respecting and honouring our flag and our anthem is part of what binds us together as a nation".

The national anthem became a burning issue of the USA politics in September after Trump's severe criticism of NFL players kneeling during the song as a way to protest against violence towards black Americans. He has previously insisted that players who fail to stand should be fired or suspended.
