Virginia Woman Mauled To Death By Her Dogs

Virginia Woman Mauled To Death By Her Dogs

After a Virginia woman was found dead in the woods last week, apparently mauled to death by her own dogs, a friend and a veterinarian are urging police to find out whether there is more to the story. There were various articles of clothing, under clothing scattered about the area not far from the body and torn into small pieces, there were patches of blood.

Ms Stephens, from Glen Allen, had defensive wounds on her hands and arms, and it is believed she was alive when the animals attacked, reported local news station WTVR.

When deputies found her body, they said she had suffered "severe trauma" and was being guarded by the two dogs.

It's understood Ms Stephens' father became increasingly concerned and set out in search of his daughter after she failed to return home by 8pm on Thursday.

It is believed the dogs had been bred for fighting.

Valerie Paul, a certified master trainer at Impawsible Pups in Richmond, Virginia said it's unusual for dogs to attack their owners out of nowhere.

The pair of pit bulls, which are now being held at Goochland Animal Control, were found guarding Stephen's body in the woods, according to investigation reports.

"Either something frightened them or there was an altercation between the two dogs that [Stephens] happened to be in the middle of", Paul said.

But Paul explained, "A lot of people are saying [the dogs] wouldn't guard if they killed, but the reality is if it's a resource, they may guard that as their food source or their toy the same way that a dog might guard a bone on a blanket". If this is truly the case, how could these loving pit bulls have attacked their owner so viciously?

HollywoodLifers, do you think Bethany's dogs mauled her? According to Barbara, the two brindle-colored dogs even slept with Bethany in her bed.

"It appears she was taken to the ground, lost consciousness, and the dogs then mauled her to death", Sheriff Agnew said of the Medical Examiner's initial report indications.

"They were big, strong, powerful dogs", Sheriff Agnew said. "In my almost 40 years in law enforcement, I've never seen anything quite like it", he said. "I hope I never see anything like it again", he added.

It took authorities more than an hour to catch the dogs.
