December 6, 2017 (EIRNS)-While the USA provocative air force exercises continue, UN Undersecretary General Jeffrey Feltman is in Pyongyang for four days of talks on "issues of mutual concern" with top North Korean officials, including Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, Vice Minister Pak Myong Guk, diplomats, and UN staff in the country.

There is also a possibility North Korea invited Feltman to request an easing of sanctions, following statements from a North Korean delegation to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, or UNIDO, on November 28, condemning the embargoes.

A suspension of nuclear and missile tests would be a "good first step", says Joseph YunJoseph Yun, the senior United States representative for North Korea Policy, said a "60-day plan" for dialogue with Pyongyang is still valid.

North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency only reported Ri met with Feltman, without providing any information about what they discussed.

The United States and South Korea responded with a show of force conducting their largest ever joint air exercise which was a five-day showcase of aircraft and jet fighter capabilities.

United Nations envoy meets North Korean foreign minister

North Korea invited Feltman for a "policy dialogue" when Ri was in NY in September for the U.N. General Assembly, according to a U.N. spokesman. The UN said Feltman, who arrived yesterday, is visiting in response to "a long-standing invitation from the authorities in Pyongyang for a policy dialogue with the UN", reports the German DW news service.

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert has said Feltman is not visiting Pyongyang on behalf of Washington.

While seeking a diplomatic solution to the nuclear issue, the Trump administration continues to call for more pressure on North Korea.

Indications of North Korea's willingness emerged following a Russian parliamentary delegation visited the North Korean leadership around the end of November. "And if war comes, make no mistake, the North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed".
