Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore's campaign strategist on Sunday said the state's upcoming special election is a referendum on President Donald Trump.
"Get out and vote for Roy Moore - do it, do it, do it", Trump urged the crowd in the middle of his near-80 minutes of mostly-prepared remarks. "I never molested anyone", Moore said about two of the women who have leveled the most serious accusations against him.
"We can not afford, the future of this country can not afford to lose the seat", Trump said referring to his party's narrow 52-48 advantage in the Senate.
Gadsden, the mall where Moore reportedly pursued teenaged girls, is still there, crowded ahead of the Christmas holiday. Luther Strange in the Alabama Republican primary, previously suggested that Moore should consider dropping out, joining a number of Senate Republicans who have opposed Moore's candidacy since reports revealed the former judge's history of alleged repeated sexual misconduct.
Moore faces allegations of sexual misconduct from numerous women-aaccusations his opponent, Doug Jones, has used to gain voters' support.
On Friday, Beverly Young Nelson explained that she had added her own notes to an inscription and signature that she says Moore wrote in her yearbook in 1977, when she was 16 years old.
The president is still incredibly popular in Alabama, a state he won by almost 30 points in November. "Did you see that?"
Mr Shah said the president and White House have made clear that the Moore allegations are "troubling and concerning" and "should be taken seriously". "Jones will always vote against what we must do for our Country".
"I couldn't vote for Roy Moore, I didn't vote for Roy Moore, but I wrote in a distinguished Republican name, and I think a lot of people could do that", Shelby said.
If Moore wins, Shelby said, the Senate will have to weigh his "fitness to serve". "We can't have a Pelosi/Schumer Liberal Democrat, Jones, in that important Alabama Senate seat. It's that he is going to Pensacola", White House spokesman Raj Shah told reporters on board Air Force One as Mr Trump flew to Florida.
Georgia's ex-President Saakashvili detained in Ukraine
Saakashvili rejects the allegations, pointing to his long record of opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Saakashvili became a regional governor in Ukraine in 2015 at Poroshenko's invitation but they later fell out.
