Warm Tuesday, but wet snow possible late this week

Could Alabama see a few snowflakes late this week? It's not certain but it is certainly possible according to the National Weather Service. Parts of north and even central Alabama could see a few snow showers to even a light dusting especially on Friday

If nothing else, much-needed rainfall is expected Tuesday night and early Wednesday with the passage of the cold front.

"By Friday the United Kingdom will be in an Arctic Maritime air mass with temperatures across the country staying in low single figures by day and below freezing by night".

Brian Gaze, forecaster for Weather Outlook, said: "Colder easterly air expected from as far away as Siberia means minimum temperatures as low as -16C could be seen this winter in Scotland, with -12C even in sheltered parts of southern England". Sunny and cool weather sticks around through the upcoming weekend with another possible freeze to start the morning on Sunday.

Spokeswoman Nicola Maxey told the Daily Express: 'It will turn cold from Friday as an Arctic Maritime air mass moves over the country. There could be horrendous conditions for western Scotland on Thursday night with blowing snow and potentially blizzard conditions.

The forecast for Dublin today is that it will be mostly cloudy with some patchy drizzle and mist. "There will be wintry showers consisting of hail and snow, but it looks like Dublin won't be hit too hard compared to the north-west". We're certainly looking at a more interesting pattern, which is often the case in December, and we will have lots to talk about in my forecast tonight.

Office meteorologist Charles Powell also warned temperatures could drop even lower than last week as northerly gales blast the UK. There will be heavy rain showers with an increased risk of sleet and snow showers towards the evening.

"We have one more mild day on Monday", said Mead.

Saturday will be cold and mainly dry with sunny spells and again temperatures will struggle to rise about 3-6 degrees Celsius.
