Mueller removed top Federal Bureau of Investigation agent over possible anti-Trump texts

Mueller Removed Top FBI Agent Over Possible Anti-Trump Texts
Robert Mueller, the special counsel leading the Justice Department's Russian Federation collusion investigation, removed an FBI agent from the case over possible anti-Trump tweets, Fox News confirmed Saturday.
Confirmation of the agent's dismissal from his role on Mueller's team came after two reports surfaced that said the agent may have shared texts that were critical of President Donald Trump.
During the Clinton investigation, Strzok was having an affair with a senior FBI lawyer named Lisa Page, the Post said.
Page was also on Mueller's team but left two weeks before the alleged anti-Trump texts were found. NBC News has not confirmed the contents of the messages and other details of Strzok's removal.
Clinton and her supporters say Comey's moves in October cost her the 2016 election, and Trump and his Republican allies have used it to justify Comey's firing - the event that ultimately led to Mueller being appointed as special counsel.
Mr Trump wrote that after years under fired FBI director James Comey, "with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more)", the agency's reputation "is in Tatters - worst in History!"
Trump's legal team had been searching for potential conflicts of interests among Mueller's investigators, the Times and the Postreported in July. A Justice Department spokesperson stated: "We are aware of the allegation and are taking any and all appropriate steps".
Current and former law enforcement officials who worked with Strzok - who remains assigned to the FBI's human resources department - told the Times that they are unaware of any incidents in which the agent allowed his political views to influence investigations.
Defenders of Strzok and Page inside the Federal Bureau of Investigation said that because there was no direct supervisory role between Page and Strzok in the workplace, there wasn't anything professionally wrong about having an affair, but added they understood why Mueller would not want anyone engaged in such conduct on his team.
"I am concerned, however, that our chairman is willing to use the subpoena and contempt power of the House, not to determine how the Russians interfered in our election or whether the president obstructed Justice, but only to distract from the core of our investigation", Schiff said.
