After Gujarat in the west, PM Modi goes east to woo voters in Meghalaya, Mizoram
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said Mizoram has become third power surplus State in the North East after Sikkim and Tripura.

We want to make Meghalaya a top tourist destination. The two states are scheduled for assembly polls in the next 12-months. The scheme will focus on projects in water supply, power, connectivity, education and health sectors.

The BJP's agenda, Modi said, will be to ensure speedy and all-round development.
Modi then travelled to Meghalaya capital Shillong, where he inaugurated the BJP's state office and inaugurated the 261-km long East West Corridor, which connects Shillong with Tura in Garo Hills region of the state.
"The road will establish a link between the two important towns of Shillong and Tura", Modi said even as he added that the travel time between Shillong and Tura would now be reduced to 8 hours. He said the farmers in the north-east could now produce, transport and sell bamboo without any restrictions as the Centre had relaxed the bamboo restriction regime. "When our ministers come here, they stay and meet the people".
Revealing his intentions to develop Meghalaya as a top tourist destination, the prime minister said that the Central Government has earmarked around Rs100 crore for the said goal.
Mr. Modi said the dam could be used for improving connectivity in remote villages, fisheries, ecotourism and also as a source of potable water.
Modi also stated that in the next 2-3 years, road projects with an investment of over Rs 60000 crores had been proposed under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in the region besides Rs 30000 crores would be given for the development of National Highways in the region under the Bharatmala Project. My visit to this lovely State today, brings back fond memories of time spent with the people of Mizoram, the PM said and wished people Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. "We are committed to bring all the state capitals of the North East region on the rail map". The PM said he will be distributing cheques to young entrepreneurs from the Rs 100 crore fund set up by his government for the goal.
Adding on to this, PM also quoted the developmental projects initiated by the Union government in the state. PM Modi also added that to boost rail infrastructure in the North Eastern Region, the government at the Centre is executing fifteen New Rail Line projects of almost 1,400 km length that will cost around Rs 47,000 crore.
