ABC News: Preliminary 5.1 earthquake hits Dover
The quake was felt along the East Coast, including in Philadelphia, New York and even southwest CT.
A magnitude 4.4 quake struck DE on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) published a map showing the quake which was felt in Virginia, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut and NY.
The preliminary magnitude-4.4 natural disaster struck at 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
The natural disaster struck at a shallow depth of 10km (6.2 miles), some 60km (37 miles) from the city of Kerman, which has a population of over 800,000, including suburbs.
People quickly took to social media to share their surprise at the rare Northeast occurrence. "Along with this fracking-enabled rush have come troubling reports of poisoned drinking water, polluted air, mysterious animal deaths, industrial disasters and explosions". People as far away as Washington, DC reported feeling the tremor. He said the quake was widely felt around the Mid-Atlantic region.
According to Delaware Emergency Management Agency, there are no reports of damages and injuries.
Paul Caruso is a geophysicist with the USGS's quake information center in Colorado.
