Heisman Trophy awarded to Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield

Heisman Trophy finalists from left Lamar Jackson Bryce Love and Baker
When the dust settled, Mayfield walked away with the Heisman, with Love finishing second and Jackson finishing third.
Mayfield became the sixth Sooner to win the award, but the 22-year-old made history by becoming the first-ever Heisman Trophy victor to start their collegiate career as a walk-on. On Saturday night, Mayfield took a big step toward another kind of history, the type that would have seemed so unlikely when he first walked on in Lubbock four years ago: He's become an all-time college football great.
On Saturday night, former Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2011, used Twitter to make reference to Mayfield's crude gesture in a victory against the Jayhawks on November 18.
The Oklahoma quarterback won the Heisman Trophy Saturday night in his second year as a finalist, following a fourth-place finish in 2015 and a third-place finish last year. In leading the Sooners to a 12-1 record, Mayfield has completed 71 percent of his passes for 4,320 yards, 41 touchdowns and five interceptions, giving him an average of 11.8 yards per pass attempt and 16.6 yards per completion, with a rating of 203.8. He also ran for 310 yards and five more touchdowns on the ground.
The quarterback was arrested in February and pleaded guilty to three misdemeanors, including public intoxication.
