In a surprise move, Civilization VI, the current iteration of the wildly popular turn based strategy game published by 2K Games, is now available for iPad.

You can pick up the game on an iPad (if you have iOS 11, an iPad Air 2, an iPad 2017, or an iPad Pro) now. The full game costs $60 at its regular rate, but it is now being offered as a free download with the first 60 turns free, and $30 to continue playing as a launch promo price.

Otherwise, it feels remarkably familiar to the the PC version and is ported by Aspyr, the same company that ported the previous Civilization games.

Here's the short trailer for the iPad release of the game. If you're an existing fan of the franchise with compatible hardware, I know you've already purchased this so I won't waste my breath.

And it's not the trial version or some joke-half of game.

While this is the first major Civilization title to reach mobile, this isn't the first time a major Firaxis release hit Apple devices. This is the first time the main series has been available on iPad.

But the game does come with local multiplayer support, which is sure to delight iPad users that would rather bring their tablet for an all-night gaming session than their PC. And the team behind the partnership have assured players that the game itself has been completely reworked to specifically fit the iPad's control system.

Civilization VI now costs $29.99 on the iOS App Store as part of a launch discount, with it slated to go up to its regular price of $59.99 on January 4.

- Civilization VI provides veteran players new ways to build and tune their civilization for the greatest chance of success. When gamers reach the game's page in the App Store, the price will say "Free".

Plus, they're thinking about supporting DLC and Rise And Fall expansions in the future. There is no additional content or expansion packs.
