Sprint is adding free Hulu service to its unlimited plan

16 November 2017, 02:07 | Vickie Mathis

Sprint is including free Hulu with its unlimited plan starting November 17th

Sprint, Altice USA Set Wireless Partnership

With T-Mobile and AT&T offering at least some of its customers free Netflix and HBO subscriptions, respectively, it was only a matter of time until Sprint joined the fray.

"Sprint is planning to include TV shows from Hulu with its unlimited plans", the market research firm wrote in a note so subscribers.

In addition, Sprint and Hulu are in talks about offering Sprint Unlimited customers an upgrade option for Hulu's live TV service.

To sign up for the offer, starting November 17, Sprint Unlimited Freedom customers can visit sprint.com/hulu.

These partnerships involving unlimited-data plans appear to be less controversial to somewhat similar sponsored-data arrangements whereby wireless customers on metered-data plans can have a "zero rating" for certain video content -meaning the data used from qualifying apps or services don't count against the subscriber's data limit. As for newcomers, Sprint's Unlimited Freedom costs $60 each month, with a maximum of five lines going for $100 each month until January 31, 2019.

Users can sign up for the deal on Friday by going to sprint.com/hulu from their Sprint phone and following the outlined steps.

Under the agreement, Sprint's unlimited plan, priced at $60 a month for a single line, will cover Hulu's $7.99 a month basic subscription.

In other streaming news, Hulu last week became the first United States streaming service to debut on the Nintendo Switch.

Samson says the decision to come out with this partnership stems from what consumers now want out of a wireless carrier.

When surveying people who were in the process of switching carriers, the company found that one in four people said that the inclusion of a video service played a role in which carrier they switched to. That normally costs $39.99 per month; Sprint did not announce how much it would cost through the carrier.
