Democratic Representative Ted Lieu, who sits on the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, said on Twitter on Tuesday he believes Sessions committed perjury when he previously denied knowledge of contact between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

Those questions have only deepened since the guilty plea last month of George Papadopoulos, a former Trump adviser who served on the council Sessions chaired and who proposed arranging a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Sessions also suggested all of his answers before Congress were answered to the best of his recollection.

"I believe that I wanted to make clear that he wasn't authorized to represent the campaign with the Russian government, or any other foreign government, for that matter", he testified.

"As for Mr. Page, while I do not challenge his recollection, I have no memory of his presence at a dinner at the Capitol Hill Club or any passing conversation he may have had with me as he left", Sessions said.

Sessions insisted that his story had never changed and that he had never been dishonest.

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions will testify on Tuesday before the House Judiciary Committee, where he is likely to face questions on Russia's election interference. After his confirmation hearing, it came to light that Sessions had met with Russian officials during the campaign, prompting his recusal from the investigation and leading to the special counsel's appointment.

Democrats say that five congressional committees have looked into the uranium sale and found nothing improper.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is also expected to demand that Donald Trump Jr. appear before them to explain a series of private Twitter messages between him and WikiLeaks during and after the 2016 election.

"We know the Clinton campaign, the Democrat National Committee, paid for through the law firm, paid for the dossier".

"It's not coming to me at this moment", he said. Sessions said he didn't know whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation had similar intelligence assessments on those groups.

"I'm not able to answer that", he repeated multiple times to Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan as he asked about the dossier.

The move, detailed in a letter to Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, comes after Trump has criticized his Justice Department for not doing more investigation of his former political rival.

Some legal experts said there is a strong argument that Sessions committed perjury at an October 18 oversight hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Conyers noted the DOJ's letter and asked, "Are you recused from investigations that involve Secretary Clinton?"
