Report: Florida finalizing deal with Dan Mullen
Dan Mullen arrived in Gainesville wearing his national championship ring from 2008, when he was Gators' offensive coordinator.
Given the volatility of the college football coaching carousel, the Gators landing Mullen is a solid choice when you consider his reputation for developing quarterbacks - something Florida's woeful offense desperately needs - and the fact he made a bottom-feeder SEC program fairly relevant.
As Florida football rumors continue to swirl while the Gators look to fill the program's head coaching vacancy, Mississippi State'sDan Mullen has reportedly emerged as a top target.
The Dan Mullen era has ended at Mississippi State.
Mullen, who went 69-46 as head coach of the Bulldogs, was the offensive coordinator under Urban Meyer during his championship-winning tenure in Gainesville. The 45-year-old Mullen is already getting paid $4.5 million, but word is the school is willing to bump him up to around $6 million and also making an even stronger financial commitment to his staff.
The Gators fired former coach Jim McElwain last month amid reports of a personality conflict with administrators.
Mullen released a statement, through the University of Florida. Under Meyer at Utah, Mullen was responsible for the evolution of eventual number one pick, Alex Smith. Before Mullen's arrival in 2009, Mississippi State had seasons with at least eight losses in seven of the previous eight years.

Mullen said the early period is an unknown for all programs.
