Barack Obama arrives at Chicago court to report for jury duty

Former President Obama Reports For Jury Duty

Former President Barack Obama is expected to appear for jury duty in downtown Chicago.

The former president, 56, lives in Washington but maintains a home in Chicago, which is why his name came up for jury duty there.

Before he left, Obama went around the room to greet his fellow jurors, some of whom anticipated his arrival and brought books for him to sign, Evans said.

In fact, Obama was also summoned in 2010 but that was during his most powerful leader in the world period, and he was able to postpone reporting, according to his spokeswoman, Katie Hill.

"Look at this. Did you know I was coming?" he asked one man who held a copy of Obama's "Dreams From My Father". Palmer joked. Would-be jurors were excited by the prospect of serving alongside the former president.

He arrived in a motorcade to the Daley Center in Chicago's Loop at around 10 a.m. after being called last month to perform his civic duty.

"The Former president was here at our invitation", Evans said.

Like other jurors, Obama will be paid $17.20 for each day of service.

While the Obamas now live in Washington, the former president and first lady Michelle Obama maintain a home in Chicago, the city where he got his political start.

Bush reported for jury duty in Dallas, Texas in 2015. However people can be dismissed for jury due to economic hardship or if they work full time for the army, emergency services or the USA government.

He is not the first former US President to be considered for jury service.
