San Juan Mayor Pushes Trump On Hurricane Response

Puerto Ricans say US relief efforts failing them

Cruz said Puerto Rico was in desperate need of aid, claiming that the death toll from the hurricane will rise without urgent assistance.

In his own tweets today, President Trump argued his administration is fully engaged with the crisis in Puerto Rico.

Cruz is depicted holding a megaphone in her left hand as she stands in waist-deep flood water.

If you prefer to donate goods such as food and water, you're also able to do that.

Yesterday's flight transported a shipment of water and food to Hurricane Maria victims in Puerto Rico.

The President added, "I will be going to Puerto Rico on Tuesday with Melania".

"It is meant to ensure we have enough fuel and commodities to support lifesaving efforts, respond to the storm, and restore critical services and critical infrastructure operations in the wake of these devastating storms", Duke said.

"We are dying, and you are killing us with the inefficiency and the bureaucracy", Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz said Friday.

"It's just really hard to concentrate", she said.

Even as federal emergency management authorities and the USA military have stepped up relief efforts, many residents have voiced exasperation at the prolonged lack of electricity, reliable supplies of drinking water and other essentials.

It's been just over one week since Hurricane Maria brought catastrophic damage to Puerto Rico, and much of the USA territory is still without electricity, water and cell phone service.

Puerto Rico's fiscal agency responded saying, "Such offers only distract from the government's stated focus and create the unfortunate appearance that such offers are being made for the objective of favorably impacting the trading price of existing debt", the agency said in a statement. This is an opportunity to rebuild and strengthen Puerto Rico. They say, why are we part of the United States, and it's a week after this disaster, are we not seeing things being reestablished? "This is a "people are dying" story". At last count, the organization credited more than 200 GA pilots for volunteer flights that assisted Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma victims in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida, before Hurricane Maria-a Category Five tempest at the time-flattened the US islands.

Even though local officials had said publicly as early as September 20, the day of the storm, that the island was "destroyed", the sense of urgency didn't begin to penetrate the White House until Monday, when images of the utter destruction and desperation - and criticism of the administration's response - began to appear on television, one senior administration official said.

Colonel James DeLapp, the Army Corps of Engineers commander for Puerto Rico, told CNN that rebuilding the island's crippled power grid was a massive undertaking. Few buildings have generator-supplied electricity, which is dependent on scarce fuel.
