White Nationalist Richard Spencer Showed Up At His UF Event, But His Supporters Didn't
Five arrests were made Thursday in connection with an event that self-described white supremacist Richard Spencer held at the University of Florida campus in Gainesville.
Tyler Tenbrink, 28, of Richmond; William Fears, 30, of Pasadena; and Colton Fears, 28, also of Pasadena, were each arrested on charges of attempted homicide and were being held Friday in the Alachua County, Fla., jail. Police said that at least two of the men have shown ties to extremist groups. Police said he is a convicted felon and faces other charges of possession of a firearm by convicted felon. One of the protesters also hit the Jeep with a baton before Tenbrink opened fire, according to Slate.
But at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, police allege, the Fears brothers and Tenbrink drove up to a group of people near a bus stop and began extending their arms in Nazi salutes and shouting chants about Hitler.
He eventually fired a single shot, hitting a nearby building, before the three sped off in the vehicle.
One of those protesters was able to jot down a license number on the texas plate.
An off-duty Alachua County sheriff's deputy was on his way home from working at the Spencer speech when he began searching for and then found the Jeep, police said. The Fears brothers each have a one million dollar bond. The vehicle pulled away momentarily, and then quickly stopped.
Before Spencer's speech on Thursday, the Gainesville Sun actually interviewedWilliam Fears about why he drove from Houston to hear an advocate of ethnic cleansing lecture college students about free speech.
Before Spencer's speech, the Sun had spoken to Tenbrink and the Fearses.
The auto drove about 10 feet and stopped.
Heather Heyer, 32, was killed in Charlotesville on 12 August 2017, when another white supremacist rammed a auto into a crowd of pedestrians protesting against the "Unite the Right" rally, yet another violent Spencer-backed event.
Gainesville police will release more details in the future.

Twitter working on a bookmarking tool for tweets
That's interesting, given that building "with" user input is how Twitter used to develop features borrowed from the community. To access something you've already saved, you have to navigate away from the main feed and open a section called Bookmarks.
Feinstein running for reelection next year
The remark resulted in so much Democratic backlash that she issued a clarification about being "under no illusion" about Trump. While Feinstein has been reelected by fairly comfortable margins, many speculated that she would retire due to her age.
