Switch 4.0 update secretly added Gamecube controller support
26 October 2017, 12:48 | Harold Aguilar
This might make you want to switch your Switch
You will need a GameCube controller (obviously) plus the USB adaptor originally released for the Wii U. Plug them both into the Switch's dock and it'll register the controller as a USB gamepad. It was a long time coming, and a necessary step to bring the Switch closer in line with the PS4 and Xbox One.
The Nintendo Switch's 4.0 update added a number of interesting things. It still, however, needs the Wii U controller adapter.
GameCube controller support has come to the NintendoSwitch. Given, there are not enough buttons on the controller to do everything that you might want to do in certain games. First of all, the Nintendo Gamecube was the last Nintendo console to feature a standard controller.
But Nintendo hasn't said anything about a new Super Smash Bros. for Switch, and it has yet to confirm those Virtual Console rumors. Plus if people like using it for Smash Bros. maybe they'll start using it for games like Pokken Tournament.
The NintendoSwitch is a unique handheld and as such, it was only natural for unique accessories to arrive to market for the console. However, controls at that time were very much limited, making the controller nearly unusable with most Switch games, notes TechRadar.
Apart from the video capturing feature, the company has rolled out another neat feature that brings GameCube controllerssupport. The Wii, of course, introduced the motion-controlled Wii Remote, the Wii U was a unusual tablet design and the Switch combines the best of the Wii and the Wii U featuring motion controls and a truly portable gaming console.
As the GameXplain video demonstrates below, the Switch now supports the use of GameCube controllers.
