Cricket: Sri Lanka in first day and night Test Match – encounter to commence today
The second test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan will be played today at the Dubai worldwide Cricket Stadium. This is the sixth day-night test match to be played with the use of a pink ball. Dilruwan Perera and Rangana Herath picked up three wickets apiece as Sri Lanka consolidated their position of strength.
It will be the first time that the Lankans play with a pink ball Test, besides being upbeat after winning the first Test by 21 runs.
Mohammad Amir has been ruled out of the one-day series against Sri Lanka with a stress injury of his right shin. Pakistanhave never lost a Test series in the United Arab Emirates.
The Openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva gave a 63-run impressive beginning to Sri Lanka but then Yasir Shah clinched the first triumph for Pakistan as Silva was caught by Sarfraz Ahmed off Shah for 27.
Pakistani bowlers were quite unsuccessful in that day except Yasir Shah. Australia's Charlie Turner and Englishman Alec Bedser had six consecutive five-fours - but all three were fast bowlers.
The sequence of events will raise questions about why he wasn't taken for a scan earlier and why he was allowed to bowl at all on the second day. The ball took his inside edge, hit his thigh pad, and clattered into his stumps. Sami Aslam fetched the first boundary of the day when he guided Gamage past the slip and the gully, and in the following over, he stepped down to Dilruwan for his second four.
Chandimal was followed by Niroshan Dickwella, who hit 52 off 53 balls in his sixth half-century in eight Tests.
The left-hander was unbeaten on 133, adding 118 for an unbroken fourth-wicket stand with skipper Dinesh Chandimal (49 not out) after Sri Lanka won the toss and batted on a flat Dubai Stadium pitch. Attempting to deliver the fifth ball of his 19th over, Wahab aborted his run up five times, failing, inexplicably, to get into his usual delivery slide.
Where to watch second Test match? The raucous appeal was turned down, but Sri Lanka chose not to challenge that decision, having already burnt a review in this innings.
