White House Press Secretary chokes back tears while discussing Las Vegas massacre

The shooting was reportedly carried out on October 1 by 64-year-old retiree Stephen Paddock, who opened fire on a large outdoor country music festival from the 32nd floor of a nearby hotel.

Mr Paddock then wired than $100,000 to the Philippines, a law enforcement official said.

He said he is "absolutely" confident authorities will find out what set off Paddock, a 64-year-old high-stakes gambler and retired accountant who killed himself before police stormed his 32nd-floor room at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.

Investigators found 23 guns inside Paddock's hotel room and 12 so-called "bump stock" devices that can enable a rifle to fire continuously.

Authorities had been trying to track down Paddock's girlfriend since the attack happened and found out she had been visiting family in the Philippines.

She said she was initially pleased when Stephen Paddock wired her money in the Philippines to buy a house for her family, but she later feared it was a way to break up with her.

Danley said she had voluntarily flown back to the United States because she knew investigators wanted to talk to her.

"He talked about how he just moved closer to where we are", Chris Michel, owner of Dixie GunWorx, in St. George, Utah said of Paddock.

Paddock's brother Eric told reporters the $100,000 transfer was evidence that "Steve took care of the people he loved", and that he likely wanted to protect Danley by sending her overseas before the attack.

She was met in the United States Tuesday evening local time - Wednesday in the Philippines - by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents. Police said that when they entered Paddock's room, he was already dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The cameras Paddock set up at the Mandalay Bay hotel casino were part of his extensive preparations that included stockpiling almost two dozen guns in his room before opening fire on the concert below. It was not clear who or what exactly the money was for.

As for the investigation into the shooting, he said: "Yeah, they're learning a lot more". He also had 50 pounds of explosives material and 1,600 rounds of ammunition in his vehicle in the hotel parking lot, police said.

"She was sent away.so that she will not be there to interfere with what he's planning", the sister suggested. Paddock fired well over 200 rounds into the hotel hallway, hitting the guard in the leg. Trump, though, went through with the visit, and before leaving for Puerto Rico said the shooter in Las Vegas was a "very, very sick individual".

President Donald Trump is set to visit Las Vegas in the aftermath of the deadliest mass shooting in modern us history.

Sheriff Joseph Lombardo Las Vegas Metropolitan Police released the tentative timeline of what occurred the night that 59, including the gunman, people were killed.

Marilou Danley, Paddock's girlfriend, issued a statement Wednesday afternoon through her attorney, Matt Lombard. He had no criminal record, no known history of mental illness and no outward signs of social disaffection, political discontent or extremist ideology, police said. "They were saying that 'We're going to die, we're going to die, ' and I still remember telling them: 'Not tonight, not tonight".
