Unifor: CAMI talks in Detroit were 'constructive' but GM hasn't responded

Air France has immediately sent personnel from Montreal and NY on site to take care of the passengers.

The forced landing in Canada's easternmost province is reminiscent of an incident seven years ago in which one of the Rolls Royce engines on a Qantas A380 suffered mid-engine damage after taking off in Singapore. It said teams have been dispatched to help passengers as the airline works to re-route them to Los Angeles and its connecting platforms.

The plane landed safely at around 1:40pm local time with part of the engine missing and debris scattered across the runway.

Passengers were horrified when the engine fell apart following a "loud thud" and "vibration".

"Just glad to be on the ground", he added.

A giant Air France A380 jet flying from Paris to Los Angeles made an emergency landing on Newfoundland after one of its four engines blew out.

Passengers reported the engine blowing out over the Atlantic Ocean, about one hour of the Canadian coast. Air France released a statement shortly after tweets and images appeared online, saying that "AF66 landed safely".
